Kansas City man accused of uploading child porn to Facebook, sending nude video to teen

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man has been charged and accused of uploading child pornography to Facebook and sending inappropriate videos to a teenager in California.

Platte County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, Aug. 20, indicate that Nathaniel F. Roby, 25, of Kansas City, has been charged with possession of child pornography as an investigation into another possible internet crime continues.

A probable cause statement filed by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office revealed that on May 8, 2024, law enforcement officials received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The tip reported that an individual had uploaded child pornography to Facebook and possibly Instagram. Multiple subpoenas were served to Spectrum and Meta, which owns both social networking platforms.

Ultimately, investigators said they found the account in question belonged to Roby, along with several videos of child sexual abuse he allegedly uploaded.

Through the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said it did identify a child victim who is believed to be around the age of 15 years old in Riverside, California. In the conversation, it was made clear that Roby was aware of the victim’s age, but told her that he was only 17.

Law enforcement officials said that after they scoured the conversation, they identified multiple videos Roby had sent the teen of his own genitals. However, further investigation was needed to verify the child victim’s actual age and identity.

Finally, on Wednesday, after more than a year of investigating, the Sheriff’s Office noted that a search warrant was served at Roby’s home. During which he was taken into custody.

During an interview with investigators, they said Roby claimed his account had been hacked and that he did not send the messages himself. He later admitted that Instagram closed one of his accounts for talking to underage children.

As a result, court documents indicated that Roby was charged with a single count of possession of child pornography. If convicted, he could be sentenced to spend up to 15 years in prison.

A hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26. As of Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21, Roby remains behind bars with no bond listed.
