Now don't get me wrong - I absolutely *love* those type of videos. It's not my intention to condemn anyone. I've watched my fair share of Honeyjubus, Cottage Fairies and the rest of the bunch - and still do, if I have had an exhausting day.
So here's my problem with them.
Some of them are so over-the-top that I get annoyed. I just simply cannot suspend my disbelief that much. I mean, come on, you claim to have kids, a dog, stuff to cook and yet you manage to vacuum twice a day, do all the cooking and other chores *and* at the same move that camera all around to get all different angles and shoot videos?
They try to make the impression that the flat they're shooting at is their (you know, just everyday surroundings!), and this is just their 'normal routine', and yet there is not only not a speck of dust anywhere, there are no kids' toys, no power cords on the floor or in any corners, and also some of the cabinets are clearly COMPLETELY EMPTY.
That all would be fine for me if they weren't pretending it's all some 'oh-just-shooting-my-daily-routine-by-myself-and-doing-all-the-editing-while-sipping-a-cup-of-jasmine-tea'. Because for a person prone to comparing themselves to others (i.e. myself), this builds unrealistic expectations. And instead of inspiring me or calming me down this makes me look around and go 'dear god, I could never reach THAT level of inner-peace-manifestation in my house'. And I do decluttering, and I don't even have kids, just one very hyperactive cat.
Sooo I guess what I want to say - or hear - is please, please someone tell me that I'm not wrong in thinking that all (or most) of these people just have an impressive filming crew and are probably renting all the indoor spaces they are shooting in, pretending those are their real homes. I've absorbed a lot of that content over the last few weeks, and all the time the comments under the video have been nothing but praise. I'm starting to think I'm the mad one for calling bullshit on this.
